§ 50. Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what recent representations he has received from the National Schizophrenia Fellowship on the subject of care in the community.
§ Mr. John PattenThe chairman of the National Schizophrenia Fellowship has sent a statement to my right hon. Friend on the closure of mental illness hospitals and the care of discharged patients in the community. The statement, which had been agreed by several other voluntary organisations active in the mental health field, calls for improved community care arrangements for former psychiatric patients and draws attention to the particular needs of those people suffering from schizophrenia. Several detailed suggestions for improvements are made. The statement is now under consideration.
