HC Deb 26 March 1984 vol 57 cc84-5W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people in (a) Belfast and (b) Northern Ireland are in jobs covered by special employment and training measures.

Mr. Butler

At end of January 1984, 9,950 people in Northern Ireland were in jobs covered by special employment and training measures. In addition, during the 10 months from the start of the 1983–84 financial year applications were approved for some 6,555 places under the training on employers premises scheme and 6,795 places under the young workers scheme. It is not possible to identify the current number of trainees on these two schemes as claims from employers are not received until after the training.

Comparable information for the Belfast travel-to-work area is not available.
