Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the net effect of the Budget changs in a full year on the incomes of (a) the lowest decile and (b) the lowest quartile of manual and non-manual workers, respectively, measured in terms of gross earnings.

Mr. Moore

[pursuant to his reply, 22 March 1984, c. 531]: At each of the earnings levels specified, the income tax reductions proposed in the Budget will be worth £108 to a married man and £66 to a single person or earning wife.
