HC Deb 26 March 1984 vol 57 c65W
Mr. Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what recommendations have been made to health authorities regarding leave of absence during the campaign for staff who will contest the Euro-elections on 14 June where such absence is not covered by section XI of the Whitley Council Regulations (Leave for Parliamentary Candidature).

Mr. John Patten

None. Section XI of the General Whitley Council handbook provides for up to four weeks special leave without pay for candidates at a Parliamentary election. Should section XI not be applicable to a particular case, employing authorities may at their discretion grant special leave without pay under the general provisions of section III. If the hon. Member has a specific problem in mind, perhaps he would write to me.
