HC Deb 26 March 1984 vol 57 cc27-8W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many Government training places are allocated specifically to electronics and the new technology industries in the west midlands region.

Mr. Peter Morrison

For unemployed adults in the west midlands, the Government currently provide some 600 training opportunities in new technology skills through the training opportunities scheme. A further 3,500 people are being trained in new technology skills under the open tech programme.

For young people in the west midlands, some 415 training places specialising in new technology skills are provided under the youth training scheme at 11 information technology centres; 305 additional places are planned for a further 10 centres.
