HC Deb 26 March 1984 vol 57 c31W
24. Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he is satisfied with the present state of the dairy industry in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

The dairy industry in Wales has been fully aware for a considerable time of the need for action to control the mounting surpluses of dairy products and the cost of the common agricultural policy. The Government's objective has been to ensure that the impending changes do not discriminate against dairy farmers in Wales or elsewhere in the United Kingdom. The proposals now on the table would enable the allocations to this country to be distributed in proportion to production in 1983 and hard cases to be taken into account.
