§ Mr. NewtonThese statistics have not been collected centrally in recent years. In 1983 of the 109 local authorities from whom more limited information was requested, 99 provided returns about residential places which have been amalgamated as follows:
Community homes with observation and assessment facilities Community homes with education on the premises At 31 March 1983 3,894 3,993 The types of local authority home about which the information requested is not available centrally are ordinary community homes, community homes providing hostel facilities and residential nurseries.
At 31 March 1983, the number of residential places available in registered voluntary homes was 2,203.
