HC Deb 26 March 1984 vol 57 c50W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will publish in the Official Report his estimate of the further saving to the Exchequer which would be achieved in each of the next five years by abolishing all forms of capital allowances including allowances carried over from 1983–84.

Mr. Moore

Estimates of the reduction in tax receipts in 1983–84 resulting from the existence of all forms of capital allowance were published in the public expenditure White Paper — Cmnd. 9143-II. The effect of the proposal in subsequent years would depend on the level of profits and investment in those years and on the extent of tax exhaustion.
