HC Deb 26 March 1984 vol 57 c32W
Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what are his plans to ensure expansion of the industrial base in Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan will benefit generally from the Government's economic strategy as it reduces inflation, encourages investment and provides sustainable employment. Programmes of infrastructure development will continue to be of assistance to the area, including factory building, which the Welsh Development Agency keeps under constant review, road construction, housebuilding and projects funded under the urban programme, urban development grant and European regional development fund.

Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many new industrial undertakings have been allocated advance factories in the area of the Vale of Glamorgan council since 1979.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Since January 1979 the Welsh Development Agency has allocated advance factory units to 21 companies in the Vale of Glamorgan. Eleven of these companies were new industrial undertakings.

Comparable details for advance factories provided by the private sector and the local authorities are not held by my Department.
