asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what proportion of the applications for attendance allowance in Northern Ireland in the latest 12 months was rejected; and what are the figures for the preceding three years.

Of the applications for attendance allowance received during 1983, 31.4 per cent. were rejected by the attendance allowance board. The corresponding figures for 1980, 1981 and 1982 were 34.5 per cent., 27.7 per cent. and 33.7 per cent., respectively.
