HC Deb 23 March 1984 vol 56 c589W
Mr. Ernie Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how the Inner London education authority will be represented within the London inner city partnerships following the abolition of the Greater London council; and whether his Department will take on a more central role within London's inner city partnerships in view of the new power it will acquire over the budget and staffing levels of the Inner London education authority.

Mr. Dunn

While it will be for the new education authority for inner London to decide what role it will play in the inner city partnerships in its area, there is no reason for supposing that it will not wish to participate in the same way as ILEA. The authority's total expenditure will be subject to certain constraints, but within that total it will remain free to determine the priority it gives to partnership expenditure; that implies no change in the role of the DES in relation to the inner London partnerships.
