HC Deb 23 March 1984 vol 56 c590W
Mr. Alex Carlile

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what proposals he has for improving bus services in rural mid-Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

Responsibility for the co-ordination of local public passenger transport including bus services lies with the county councils. It is for them to consider the standard of bus services in their areas and the introduction where necessary of other modes of public transport such as social car services or post buses. As my hon. Friend told the hon. Gentlemen in the Welsh Grand Committee on 22 February, these matters can be discussed further in the context of the proposed consultation paper.
