HC Deb 23 March 1984 vol 56 c615W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what proportion of Army laundering is contracted out; and at what cost.

Mr. Lee

Except where handled by the Army facilities in BAOR and the Falklands, all laundering for the Army is contracted out. The total contract cost is about £3.5 million a year. In BAOR there is an operational need to maintain an in-house laundering capability, which means that only a third of the BAOR volume of work is dealt with through contract.
