§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Secretary of State for Defence what proportion of Army laundering is contracted out; and at what cost.
§ Mr. LeeExcept where handled by the Army facilities in BAOR and the Falklands, all laundering for the Army is contracted out. The total contract cost is about £3.5 million a year. In BAOR there is an operational need to maintain an in-house laundering capability, which means that only a third of the BAOR volume of work is dealt with through contract.
