HC Deb 22 March 1984 vol 56 c521W
Sir Hector Monro

asked the Solicitor-General for Scotland what guidance the Lord Advocate has given to chief constables about the use of firearms by the police.

The Solicitor-General for Scotland

At the request of chief constables, and following consultation with the Association of Chief Police Officers (Scotland) the Lord Advocate has prepared guidelines on the use of firearms by the police. These have been sent to chief constables today and copies have been placed in the Libraries of both Houses.

The guidelines are to be read in conjunction with the guidelines which the Secretary of State has approved on the issue of firearms.
