HC Deb 21 March 1984 vol 56 cc504-5W
Mr. Randall

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the 20 most commonly used food colourings and flavourings which are known to cause hyperactivity in children.

Mr. John Patten

As I stated in my reply to the hon. Member for Fife, Central (Mr. Hamilton) on 15 March, at columns259–60, I am advised that despite a number of studies, mainly in the United States, there is at present no conclusive evidence about the suggested relationship between hyperactivity and the use of additives in food and drink.
