HC Deb 21 March 1984 vol 56 c466W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the reply of 27 February, Official Report, column 5, if he will give a detailed breakdown of the occasional disclosures of personal information, stating which Departments received data and the number of disclosures to each Department.

Mr. Waddington

The detailed breakdown requested is not available.

For the purposes of the administration of the immigration control and to assist other Departments in carrying ou their statutory functions, the immigration and nationality department may give to other Departments personal data held on its files. The data are normally held in paper filing systems and it is not usually necessary to consult personal data held on the computer records. The main recipients of personal data from IND files are the Department of Employment, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and to a lesser extent, the Department of Health and Social Security.
