HC Deb 20 March 1984 vol 56 c440W
69. Mr. Holt

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied that the training in new technologies available under the youth training scheme in Scotland is adequate to meet the trend in that country towards the industries of the future; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The youth training scheme aims to provide broad-based foundation training, of which a core element is an introduction to computer literacy and information technology. More specialised training within the scheme is provided at 16 information technology centres in Scotland, offering 600 places; 10 more such centres are planned to open during 1984–85. In general, I am satisfied that the Manpower Services Commission and the education service in Scotland are collaborating well in developing and adapting vocational education and training provision to meet the needs of Scottish industry.
