HL Deb 20 March 1984 vol 449 c1216WA
Lord Bruce-Gardyne

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What representations they have received from the European Commission regarding the intention to provide a taxpayer subsidy of £25,000 per direct additional employee for the assembly plant of Yamazaki at Worcester: what were the considerations which led them to make this offer of selective assistance; and what reply has been sent to Brussels.

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (Lord Cockfield)

Information on regional development grants of £25,000 and over and selective financial assistance offers of £5,000 and over is given every quarter inBritish Business. Where a case is submitted to the European Commission details appear in the Official Journal of the Community. Beyond this it is not the normal practice to give details of individual applications during the course of the negotiations. The Government have not received any representations about the case to which my noble friend refers.
