Miss Fookes

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the annual cost of maintaining the Royal Marines commando forces band; and if he will outline the main activities of the band in the last 12 months for which details are available.

Mr. Lee

The estimated cost of the band in 1983–84 is £900,000, which includes all training and administrative costs. During 1983 the band took part in many engagements, including military training, beating retreat, navy days and concerts, and visited Northern Ireland and the Falklands.
