§ 51. Mr. Sean Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce a measure to tackle the problem of long-term unemployment amongst 18 to 25-year-olds.
§ Mr. Alan ClarkThe community programme provides some 130,000 temporary job opportunities on projects of benefit to the community for long-term unemployed people. Over half the entrants to the programme since it began in October 1982 have been aged from 18 to 24. This age group also benefits from the job opportunities made available by my Department's other special employment measures.
