Mr. Norman Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if it is the intention of the Government to privatise either in full or in part or to offer franchise contracts to private companies for the new rail link service between London Victoria and Gatwick airport starting from 14 May.

We have encouraged British Rail to seek partners for this venture, and it is considering the possibilities.
