HC Deb 20 March 1984 vol 56 c390W
Sir Dudley Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, further to the answer of 9 March, Official Report, column 732, on the Council of Ministers' meeting on consumer affairs, what is the individual national position given by Her Majesty's Government with regard to the product liability directive.

Mr. Fletcher

The Council on March 2 concentrated on the question of the extent to which there should be a financial limit to a producer's liability. I indicated that we are in general opposed to such limits since we foresee serious practical difficulties but that we are prepared to look constructively at suggestions for a compromise solution on this aspect of the directive.
