HC Deb 20 March 1984 vol 56 c415W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is (a) the total revenue received, (b) the total cost of administration and (c) the profit or loss arising from dog licence fees for 1980 and 1983.

Mr. Waldegrave

The information is not available in respect of calendar years. The total amount collected by the Post Office in respect of dog licences was £1 million in 1980–81 and £0.9 million in 1982–83, the latest year for which information is available. The payment made by the Department to the Post Office to cover the costs of issuing dog licences was £2.8 million in 1980–81 and £3.3 million in 1982–83, the deficit was thus about £1.8 million in 1980–81 and £2.4 million in 1982–83.
