HC Deb 19 March 1984 vol 56 c331W
15. Mr. Robin Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his policy on the conversion of railways into roads.

Mr. Ridley

It is for the British Railways Board to propose closure of railway lines it no longer wishes to use. In cases where closure is approved, I am always keen to see worthwhile transport uses for the right of way.

25. Mr. Snape

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his policy on the conversion of railways into roads.

Mr. Ridley

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave earlier this afternoon to the hon. Member for Livingston (Mr. Cook).
