Dr. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish a list of local authorities which have (a) increased spending by more than 12 per cent. between 1981–82 and 1983–84 and (b) increased their rates by more than 12 per cent. between 1981–82 and 1983–84, and (c) have populations greater than 200,000.

The following is a list of local authorities which have(a) increased their net current expenditure by more than 12 per cent. between 1981–82 outturn and 1983–84 budgets, (b) increased their own local rate or precept by more than 12 per cent. between their final 1981–82 rate and their 1983–84 rate and (c) populations of more than 200,000.
