asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on Government policy relating to the reduction in community programme schemes by the Manpower Services Commission in county Durham.

We are currently considering the regional allocation of places on the community programme from April 1984 to October 1986 and I will write to the hon. Member about the implications for county Durham as soon as an announcement has been made.
