HC Deb 16 March 1984 vol 56 cc287-8W
Mr. Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the amount of money spent per child by education authorities in West Yorkshire during the years 1980–81, 1981–82 and 1982–83.

Mr. Dunn

The information for primary and secondary schools is as follows:

Net Institutional recurrent expenditure per full-time equivalent pupil (cash)
Primary and Secondary
L.E.A. 1980–81 1981–82 1982–83
£ £ £
Bradford 636 719 797
Calderdale 622 710 788
Kirklees 591 683 752
Leeds 616 703 759
Wakefield 632 691 752

Costs are generally higher for older pupils; the figures for individual authorities will be affected by the balance of younger and older pupils in their schools and by the numbers remaining at school after 16.
