asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what recent representations he has received about exclusive arrangements between sellers and big buyers and their effect on small and independent businesses; and if he will make a statement.

Since the beginning of the year I have received a number of letters from hon. Members and independent retailers on the subject of discounts to retailers. I have also discussed the subject with food manufacturers, and shall be discussing it in the near future with grocery distributors.
