HC Deb 15 March 1984 vol 56 cc224-5W
26. Mr. Tom Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the present number of people waiting for a visa to enter the United Kingdom to join either a husband or wife.

Mr. Waddington

The information requested is available only for the Indian subcontinent. Eight hundred and sixty husbands and 4,600 wives in the Indian subcontinent were awaiting a decision on their application for entry clearance to the United Kingdom at the end of 1983. These figures include those who have been interviewed but whose application remains undetermined. Combined figures for husbands and male fiances are published quarterly in the Home Office Statistical Bulletin "Control of Immigration: Statistics (table 7 of issue 4/84) and figures for wives are published in the annual Command Paper of the same title (table 7 of the latest issue Cmnd. 8944).
