HC Deb 15 March 1984 vol 56 cc276-8W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people in Wales are entitled to claim family income supplement.

Mr. Newton

[pursuant to his reply, 12 March 1984, c. 66]: The number of families receiving family income supplement in Wales at October 1983, the latest date for which information is available, is set as follows:

Great Britain Wales
One-Parent Families 82,000 4,000
Two-Parent Families 122,000 8,000
Total 204,000 12,000

I regret that it is not possible to make reliable estimates on a regional basis of those who may be entitled to FIS but have not made a claim.
