HC Deb 15 March 1984 vol 56 cc255-6W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will now consult the medical profession and the British Boxing Board of Control with a view to amending the regulations permitting the blows to the head in boxing, in view of concern about damage sustained by boxers.

Mr. Macfarlane

[pursuant to his reply, 13 March 1984, c. 94]: The regulations governing amateur and professional boxing in this country are entirely matters for the sport's governing bodies — the Amateur Boxing Association and the British Boxing Board of Control. The Government have no direct locus to effect changes to those regulations.
