Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people suffered spinal cord injuries, in the most recent years for which figures are available, as a result of accidents while playing rugby; and if he will list the major causes of spinal cord injuries in the same years.

[pursuant to his reply, 6 March 1984, c. 564]: Information on the causes of spinal cord injuries is not held centrally. The available information on the total numbers of inpatients receiving treatment in National Health Service hospitals for the effects of spinal cord injuries is as follows:
