§ Mr. Lawrenceasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what financial assistance has been given by the Government to marriage guidance councils in the years 1981–82 and 1982–83; and what is the estimate for 1984.
§ Mr. MellorIn 1981–82, 1982–83 and 1983–84 the following grants have been made by the Home Office towards the training and headquarters expenses of marriage guidance organisations:

Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services has made the following grants in the same years: £23,000, £23,000, and £31,000 to the Catholic Marriage Advisory Council in support of the cost of its medical services; and £20,000, £20,000 and £35,000 to the National Marriage Guidance Council for the training of its councellors in the treatment of sexual difficulties.
Provision for 1984–85 will be included in the Estimates to be presented to the House shortly.
