asked the Secretary of State for Defence at what exchange rate he intends to evaluate bids at January 1984 prices recently called for in connection with ship-to-ship guided weapons.

We have used a variety of possible future exchange rate assumptions in evaluating the overseas expenditure aspects of the various tenders for the Royal Navy's future surface-to-surface guided weapon. The sensitivity of the evaluations to changes in these assumptions is one of the factors to be taken into account in arriving at a decision.
