asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will set out tables in the Official Report showing which 10, or nearest convenient number, of local authority areas or health districts have the largest percentage of people of retirement age.

The percentage of people of retirement age in each local authority district of Great Britain was recently published in table 3 of "Census 1981, Key Statistics for Local Authorities" (HMSO), a copy of which is in the Library. The 10 local authority areas with the largest percentages in the 1981 census were as follows:

* Age 60 for women and 65 for men.
