HC Deb 13 March 1984 vol 56 cc93-4W
Mr. Boyes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, in the event of the abolition of the Tyne and Wear metropolitan council, what proportion of the council's annual gross expenditure will be transferred to non-directly elected bodies.

Mr. Waldegrave

Based on 1982–83 outturn expenditure data, 49 per cent. of Tyne and Wear metropolitan council's gross revenue expenditure on the rate fund and trading accounts would be controlled by joint boards under the Government's proposals for reorganisation of local government.

Mr. Boyes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list those organisation which have made representations to him concerning "Streamlining the Cities", as it affects Tyne and Wear county council, indicating which were (a) in favour and (b) against the proposals.

Mr. Waldegrave

I have placed in the Library a list of major national organisations which have responded to the White Paper. We have not yet completed our analysis of the responses received.
