Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what percentage of juveniles cautioned or convicted for indictable offences in each of the past five years had committed offences of (a) violence, (b) sex, (c) robbery, (d) theft and (e) burglary; and if he will give the same information for young adults and the actual numbers involved in each category.

The number of persons found guilty of or cautioned for indictable offences by age and offence group is published annually in "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales" (table 5.17 of the volume for 1982, Cmnd. 9048). The percentages requested are given in the following table. Corresponding information for 1983 is not yet available.
