§ The Prime MinisterWe remain committed to the extensive privatisation programme set out in our last manifesto. Increased target figures for special sales of assets in future years were announced in the 1984 public expenditure White Paper (Cmnd. 9143). The aim of the programme is to increase competition and improve efficiency, to the benefit of customers, employees, taxpayers and the economy as a whole.
