HC Deb 12 March 1984 vol 56 cc43-4W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will publish a table listing all the university pharmacy departments in Great Britain showing how many graduates qualified in each of the last five years to date from each institution and how many graduates from each institution went on to employment, giving separate figures for each year and for each institution.

Mr. Brooke

The information requested is held by the universities' statistical record. Because it is not routinely published the USR needs the agreement of the universities concerned to release it. I have asked the USR to seek its agreement and will write to my hon. Friend.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many students applied to read for the degree of pharmacy at the pharmacy department at Heriot-Watt university in each of the last five years to date; and in each case how many of them were accepted.

Mr. Brooke

The information requested is:

Total number of applications* Number of home and European Community students accepted
1979 590 46
1980 555 42
1981 527 43
1982 598 42
1983 620 22
* These applicants will also have applied to several other institutions.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many of the 198 graduates of pharmacy who left the pharmacy department at Heriot-Watt university in each of the last five years to date, were employed (a) in Scotland and (b) in the south-east of Scotland.

Mr. Brooke

I shall write to my hon. Friend shortly.
