HC Deb 12 March 1984 vol 56 cc14-8W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many persons, according to the latest available information supplied by local authorities in their housing plans and checklists, were on Scottish local authorities' active waiting lists in priority need at 31 March 1983.

Mr. Ancram

The information supplied to me by local authorities is neither complete nor prepared on a uniform basis. Because applicants can put their names down with more than one authority, and because authorities adopt differing practices with regard to eligibility for admission to the lists and review of applications, the figures submitted by individual authorities are not directly comparable. I must therefore refer the hon. Member directly to the local authorities in which he is interested.

Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many houses in each Scottish local authority (a) required treatment for (i) condensation and (ii) rising or penetrating damp, and (b) are programmed for treatment

Note:

Grade 1 is the least severe of the 3 grades and covers minimal mould growth, eg on ceilings or behind stationary items and low or zero moisture meter readings on wall surfaces and at ceiling angles.

Grade 2 covers persistent patches of mould growth on walls and ceilings; traces of mildew on soft furnishings and clothing, and medium moisture meter readings on wall surfaces and at ceiling angles, such that prevailing conditions are causing discomfort.

Grade 3 is the most severe of the 3 grades, and covers extensive mould growth and damage to the decoration of walls and ceilings and high moisture meter readings on walls and at ceiling angles such that prevailing conditions constitute a health hazard and are causing distress.
