§ Mr. Cockeramasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the numbers of civil servants employed in the Crown Estate Office in April 1979; and why it is proposed in the "Government's Expenditure Plans 1984–85 and 1986–87," Cmnd. 9143, to increase the number of civil servants in this department.
§ Mr. Peter ReesThe number of civil servants whose costs were borne on the Vote of the Crown Estate Office in April 1979 was 128. The staff figures shown in Cmnd. 9143 allow for an increase in work load resulting from the increasing number of the estate's London leases requiring renewal. As a result of an internal reorganisation the 81 staff currently employed on estate management duties will be paid direct from the land revenue account from 1 April 1984.
In accordance with established practice those staff will no longer be included in the Civil Service manpower count. The number of staff who will remain in the manpower count is expected to be 33 throughout the period covered by table 1.15 in Cmnd. 9143.
