HC Deb 09 March 1984 vol 55 c743W
Mr. Madel

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what rights parents have in relation to his Department if they feel that the curriculum or parts of the curriculum are being taught in a biased way; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dunn

As my right hon. Friend said in his recent speech about peace studies, a copy of which is in the Library, parents who believe that they have grounds for complaint about a school's or a teacher's treatment of the issue of peace and war should not hesitate to take the matter up with the school and, if they do not receive satisfaction from the school, with the local education authority and ultimately with my right hon. Friend himself. Such complaints are always taken seriously by the Department and raised with the local education authority concerned. This advice applies equally to anxieties about biased teaching in other areas of the school curriculum.
