HC Deb 09 March 1984 vol 55 c726W
Mr. Hickmet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will estimate the effect on the costs of the Central Electricity Generating Board of it being free to purchase its coal requirements on the world market from suppliers of its own choice.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The costs of purchasing coal are a matter for the CEGB. I understand the chairman has written to my hon. Friend.

Mr. Hickmet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what representations he has received from the chairman of the Central Electricity Generating Board about the effect on electricity prices of enabling the board to purchase its coal requirements on the world market from suppliers of its own choice; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

None.
