HC Deb 09 March 1984 vol 55 c738W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied that suitable publicity is available to small builders and do-it-yourself workers on the dangers of asbestos.

Sir George Young

A detailed advice note on asbestos materials in buildings has been published by the Department of the Environment and copies are available through Her Majesty Stationery Office. The Department has also published a free leaflet on asbestos in housing for householders and do-it-yourself workers, and a large number have been distributed.

The Health and Safety Executive publishes a number of guidance notes on working with asbestos materials and further guidance is in preparation.

I am considering what further publicity might be given to these publications in the light of recommendation 7.70 of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution in its tenth report.
