HC Deb 08 March 1984 vol 55 c660W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many projects are currently in operation under the urban programme; how many of these are sponsored by voluntary organisations, region and district authorities, respectively; how many projects have been running for (a) under three years and (b) under five years; how many have been extended beyond five years; and how many applications are awaiting approval by the urban renewal unit.

Mr. Ancram

At 1 January 1984 there were 1,106 projects approved for spending in the current financial year. Four hundred and seventy-seven involve capital expenditure, of which 185 are sponsored by voluntary bodies, 84 are to be undertaken by district councils and 208 by regional councils, Nine hundred and fourty-six involve current expenditure, of which 333 are sponsored by voluntary bodies, 118 are to be undertaken by district councils and 495 by regional councils. Some projects involve both capital and current expenditure. There are 164 applications awaiting a response from the urban renewal unit of my Department. It is not possible without disproportionate cost to identify the numbers of projects which have been running for the periods specified in the question.

Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the latest figures of capital and revenue cost expenditure under the urban programme in Scotland in 1983–84; and what were the figures for 1982–83.

Mr. Ancram

The information is as follows:

£ million £ million
1982–83 outturn 1983–84 estimated
Capital 6.5 9.5
Current 17.9 21.1
Total 24.4 30.6
