HC Deb 08 March 1984 vol 55 cc711-2W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what protective clothing for use in chemical attacks has been sold by Porton Down either directly or indirectly in the past five years; and to which countries the clothing was sold.

Mr. Lee

The chemical defence establishment Porton Down is responsible for research into clothing and equipment required to protect British forces against the threat of chemical attack. CDE does not itself sell protective clothing. Overseas sales by industry are subject to export licensing controls. It has been the consistent policy of successive Governments not to disclose particulars of the sales of defence equipment overseas.
