Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what decisions to be made by London borough councils will affect estimates of savings to be made in the event of the abolition of the Greater London council.

Decisions on the detailed organisation of the services transferred to the boroughs individually and collectively.

Mrs. Roe

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what posts below board level he intends to establish by statute for each of the three joint boards for fire, police and public transport which would operate in the metropolitan county areas in the event of the implementation of proposals contained in Cmnd. 9063.

(2) what representations he has received from the Association of Trade Standards Officers in response to his White Paper, Cmnd. 9063; what was the organisation' s view concerning the continued performance of metropolitan-wide functions with which it is particularly concerned; and whether it was in favour of, or opposed to, abolition of the Greater London council and the metropolitan counties;

(3) what representations he has received from the Association of Public Analysts in response to his White Paper, Cmnd. 9063; what was the organisation's view concerning the continued performance of metropolitan-wide functions with which it is particularly concerned; and whether it was in favour of, or opposed to, abolition of the Greater London council and the metropolitan counties;

I must ask the hon. Member to await the summary analysis of the main points arising from consultation. Meanwhile, if the hon. Member wishes to know the views of the organisations mentioned, he could write to them.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from the Bishop of Manchester with regard to the proposed abolition of the Greater Manchester council; what reply he is sending; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Bishop of Manchester has written to my right hon. Friend expressing his concern at the proposals in the White Paper "Streamlining the Cities" and asking the Government to institute an inquiry before implementing these proposals. My right hon. Friend will reply to him shortly.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, in the event of the abolition of the Greater London council, what changes will be necessary in the Ferries Act 1919, the Iveagh Bequest (Kenwood) Act 1929, the Civic Restaurants Act 1947, the Fireworks Act 1951, the Food and Drugs Act 1955 and the Nurses Agency Act 1957.
