HL Deb 08 March 1984 vol 449 c474WA
Lord Chelwood

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In what percentage of each category of local authority (excluding Parish Councils) a single political party has overall control without having obtained a majority of the votes cast; and whether they will set up a Royal Commission to consider whether the present system of elections should be improved.

Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Home Office (Lord Elton)

The information requested is not recorded centrally. We have no plans to set up a Royal Commission to deal with this or other aspects of electoral law.
