HC Deb 08 March 1984 vol 55 cc656-7W
Mr. Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what contributions towards the costs of providing police escorts in motor vehicles or on motor bicycles for visitors to the United Kingdom from foreign or Commonwealth countries making journeys by road in connection with visits to members of Her Majesty's Government are made directly or indirectly in reimbursement to the local police authority providing the escort by (a) the country of the visitor or (b) the Department of the Minister being visited or (c) his Department.

Mr. Hurd

The provision of escorts is a matter for the chief officer of police. The Department pays grant of 50 per cent. on all police expenditure under the terms of the Police (Grant) Order 1966.
