asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the numbers of male and female district nurses employed in each of the health authority areas in England; and what are their ratios to the size of the population in each case.

The information requested is given in the following table for regional health authorities at the latest available date. Data on the numbers of male and female district nurses at district health authority level are not held centrally.

† Unrounded figures have been used in the calculations of whole-time equivalents per 100,000 population.

‡ Owing to rounding the sum of the Regional figures may differ from the total shown.

ob/ Excluded from the table are 49 District nurses who were working in the London postgraduate teaching Hospitals.
